The Project

Photomungus.com is a noncommercial photo gallery dedicated to the preservation and curation of a collection of photographs taken by my father, Lynn H. Anderson, MD (1923-2007), my great grandfather, Brigham J. Anderson, Jr. (1885-1949), and myself.

The Images

All images are original. Those taken prior to the early 2000s have been digitized from film. I currently accomplish this using a Nikon D800E camera body, Sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro lens, Nikon ES-1 slide/negative copying adapter, and a 5000K flood lamp.

All images have metadata, including description, topic, keywords, source, rating (1✭ to 5✭) and camera-generated EXIF data.

They are organized into ordered collections and available in both reduced size (1600 pixels in the long dimension), the default, and full size (up to 36 megapixels, or more for composites). Full size images have excellent detail, especially when zoomed in. Look at them on the largest screen available!

The Interface

You are using the standard interface, optimized for devices that have a keyboard and a mouse. Cycle between images by clicking the arrow buttons on the panel at the upper left of the image (or use your left and right arrow keys). Notice that the panel disappears when your mouse moves outside it, or when you click the down-arrow key.

The mobile interface, designed for devices that use gestures instead of pointing devices, runs automatically for most phones and tablets. You can switch to it using the toggle button on the menu.

Comment: Use this to leave a private comment.

Full size images: Select to display the password-protected full size images instead of reduced size images. The mouse cursor will show ⨁ when hovering over a full size image, to indicate that you can click to zoom in on the selected area. This displays actual pixels, as opposed to an enlargement generated by the browser. Click again to zoom out, as indicated by the ⊝ cursor.

Private images: Select to display private images, if you have access to them.

Show images rated:Control the number of images displayed by selecting only the desired ratings, 3✭, 4✭, and/or 5✭.

Interface: Move the button to the right to switch to the mobile interface.

Keyword search: Enter any word or phrase to select images having a matching keyword. If no images are found, try variations of case, singular vs. plural, etc.

Access and Licensing

Reduced size images (the default) can be viewed by anyone and are licensed under Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

Full size images are copyrighted, all rights reserved, and password protected. You can create a registered password by using the Register option and then entering the security code emailed to you. You can also view full size images through a private link, if one has been provided to you.

Private images (regardless of size) are also password protected. If you want to view private images, send me a request via Comment or email (evan.anderson@photomungus.com).

The Web Site

The web site is built using HTML, CSS, and Javascript on the client, and Apache HTTP Server, PHP, and MySQL running on a virtual private server hosted by Ionos.

My first photographic project, Digital Slide Theater (formerly registered as dslide.com), is designed around a slide projector theme.
