Outdoor photo opportunities come whenever you are in the right place with the right light. Sometimes on a business trip, and sometimes right in the neighborhood.

Sedona Sunrise Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, D100 This was taken from a slightly icy downtown parking lot on a clear, crisp morning.
Coffepot Rock Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, D100 After a breakfast of omlettes and coffee at a favorite local hangout, we drove a couple of miles and hiked about half an hour for this view of a red rock formation that looks like a coffee pot.
Big Red Face Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, NSP Wide angle shots are needed when you get close to the huge formations. Like this one, shot at 28mm on Fuji Sensia 100 slide film. The N90 35mm camera provides a 50% greater field of view than the D100 digital does with the same lens.
Looking skyward from ancient cliff dwelling Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, NSP Dating back to the 13th century, stone buildings are still found among the red rock cliffs and alcoves. This shot looks straight up through what once was the roof of this cliff-hugging structure.
A pearl in a giant clam shell Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, NSP These rocks seemed tailor made for a corny tourist shot.
Looking Up Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, NSP yes are drawn upward to appease the spirit of, uh, the pesky guy with the camera.
Sheltered by the bosom of Mother Earth Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, NSP This huge natural shelter provided protection and spiritual significance for the Hopi and their predecessors.
The Womb of Mother Earth Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, NSP This unreal formation is considered by some to be as spiritually significant as it is a realistic image of the womb.
Native American cliff dwelling Sedona Arizona, Feb. 2004, NSP This site is full of cliff drawings depicting Hopi mythology.
Sunset on Cathedral Rock edona Arizona, Feb. 2004, D100 We tore down a windy road to catch a shot of intense orange light from the setting sun on the 'cathedral.' The orange light was fading by the time the tripod was set up, so I restored the color using Photoshop.
Coronado Legacy Del Coronado Hotel, Coronado Island, CA, CP995 This was taken during a business trip to Coronado, adjacent to San Diego. The Del Coronado is one of the last remaining great wooden resort structures. Originally built in 1888, it has appeared in many classic movies. This was a challenging shot for the Coolpix 995 camera, placed on a fence in lieu of a tripod.
Fire and Ice A glass sun garden ornament begins to thaw after Dec. 2002 ice storm. D100 This was taken in my front yard. The image of the sun's face cloaked in ice and backlit by the morning sun seemed to tell a story about the struggle between fire and ice for domination of the earth's climate.
Cloak of Ice Ice storm brings beauty along with broken power lines, D100 This tree is one of the lucky ones that did not break under the burden of a three-quarter inch layer of ice.
